Nepal Mountain Bike Race on November 18

It is well known fact that Nepal is the good place for adventure sports tourism. However, this aspect of sports tourism has not been explored and exploited well by the concerned authority and private sector.

Mountain biking in NepalIn the past, a few mountain bike races were organised to promote it as adventure sports tourism but nobody could give continuity to mountain bike race in Nepal due to various reasons.

The main objectives behind organising Nepal Mountain Bike Race 2006 are to publicize Nepal as an adventure sports destination and to create awareness among Nepalese youths and attract them toward adventure sports.

According to one estimate, around 27 percent of American travellers are adventure sports lovers. If we could attract even a small percentage of it, Nepal would be flooded with adventure sports tourists. It will not only boost the tourism of Nepal but also promote Nepal as a destination of adventure sports helping Nepalese athletes and bikers to be of international standard.

The categories for this race are Men's Elite, Junior Boys, Ladies' Open, Men's Masters, School Race, Corporate Race, Media Race, and Weekend Warriors. The date for the race is slated for November 18, 2006(Saturday). Organised by Nepal Mountain Bike Tours Pvt Ltd and Nepal Cycling Club, this race is being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board and Sustainable Tourism Network.

The entry fee for all categories is Rs. 550. There will be cash prize, gift hampers, trophy and certificate for the winners. Major sponsors are: Manakamana Cable Car, Fire & Ice Restaurant, Himalayan Bank, Mero Mobile, Choudhary Group, Agni Incorporate Pvt Ltd, Country Villa, Kaze Nepal Tours, Mercantile Solution, Massive Mountain Bike, The Last Resort, Nepal Life and General Insurance, Yak Cargo, Flight Connection Pvt Ltd, Northfield Hotel, Khaja Ghar, Millennium Gateway.

Some Important features of this race are:

  • It starts from Goldhunga and ends at Tokha.
  • Highest point is which is at 1500 metres
  • Panoramic view of mountain and villages can be seen while biking
  • Race for all category is 27 km.
  • There is six kilometer jeep track in the beginning, then single track to Cho Gaun. From Cho Gaun, there is jeep track to Dharmastali and from there on, there is up hill off road from Jhor to Toka.
  • This is the only mountain bike race that has taken place in this year in the international standard.
